- I'M BLIND, YOU SEE
I went down to uptown-street
A back-town in front of me
Intelligent men full of naivety
Explain everything or nothing, when he
Explodes onto the street
Millions of thinkers under his feet
Explains what it means to be free, how there're
Some things you can't believe
I said 'Hey Sir, can you believe them true,
These lies right in front of you?'
But I was just sent to the back of the queue
And millions of thinkers went to kiss his shoes
I said 'Hey this man's got you fooled!'
I looked at the lips on his shoes
I think he knows that, I think he knows that
I said oh, I think he knows that
I went up to Protest Street
Banners distorted in blistering heat
I don't know, maybe I can't read
But the slogans were doing things I just can't believe
The words were changing like a hypocrite's hat
When one disagreed the other agreed with that
I asked a man what he was standing for
He said 'Look Sir, I'm not so sure'
I said 'Hey I think I've seen you before,
At that protest about the price of oil,
Now you're here about this unnatural heat,
Doesn't that make you a hypocrite?'
I said 'Better make your mind up quick'
He started going on about an oil slick
I think he knows that, I think he knows that
I said oh, I think he knows that
And he said...
I'm blind, you see me?
My past is right there in front of me,
Do nothing if you can hear me
I read the Bible, I read the Koran,
I read about Ghandi and Genghis Khan.
I read 'War and Peace' and 'Pride and Prejudice',
'Matthew', 'Mark', 'Luke', 'Mohammed' and 'Judas'
I travelled Left, I travelled Right,
I fought for freedom, I fought to fight,
I went East, went West, went rich, went poor
I nailed barbed-wire and mistletoe to my door
I asked the man with a hole in his shoe,
I asked Mother Superior, caught Catch 22
Asked Dylan, asked Lennon, Archbishop Tutu
I asked just about everyone, forgot to ask you
'What did I find?' You'll have to guess,
I've gotta get home and get some rest.
Is being in the same tune the key?
Or is the key the tune?
I'm blind, you see me?
My past is right there in front of me,
Do nothing if you can hear me.
